    There are numerous uses of a Police Check certificate in Australia, which means more organisations and businesses are adopting it as an internal risk mitigation strategy.

    Australian National Character Check (ANCC) provides National Police Checks Online at a base cost of $48.90. Applicants can pay using debit card, credit card or PayPal.

    Do I have to pay to obtain a Police Check?

    Yes, the Police Check involves a lot of computer work, processes, data transfer and security, certificate issuance. All these require resources for their efficient running; that is why there is a base fee for conducting the Police Check.

    How much does a Police Check cost?

    Candidates can Start a Police Check application at the Local Police office. However, this process can be in-person and may require a paper-based application. The Informed consent form here, is a paper based form that must be filled and returned to the office.

    The local police forces generally issue the applicant with their Police Check certificate within 10 to 15 business days of the application.

    Prices for a police check from a State or Territory police force vary depending on the State or Territory in which you apply. Generally, prices can range from $42.00 to $56.00,


    • ✔ Applying through the Post Office

    The Post office is an intermediary between the applicant and the National Police Checking Service. Applicants can forward their completed NPC informed consent form to the post office and receive their certificate on completion through the Post office. The post office charges $52.00 for a police check.

    Can I get a discounted Police Check?

    Individual applicants are not eligible for a discount and must pay a standard stipulated fee.

    Business customers that sign up to ANCC’s Business Portal and order a large volume of checks annually may be eligible for a bulk police check discount.

    Can I get a free Police Check?

    You may be able to get a non-legitimate free background check in Australia however all national police checks stipulate a fee.

    Employers may also waive the entire application cost for their workers or candidates based on the role they perform. For example, Students on internships may get a fee reimbursement for their Police Check application depending on the organisation's policies and their arrangements. However, this will vary between different employers and will depend on their own policies and procedures.

    Employers that use ANCC’s business portal are able to pay on behalf of a candidate.

    Does the price of the Police Check vary?

    The price of the check will vary depending on the provider you choose. Prices can range from $41 all the way to $99 for a standard national police check. Australian National Character Check provides all applicants with a criminal history check for a base price of $48.90.

    Can my Police Check application continue without paying the fee?

    No, your Police Check application cannot continue until you complete the payment. The payment validates a Police Check application in Australia.

    How long does it take to process my payments?

    Online applications are usually the fastest means of obtaining the Police Check certificate. They also process the payments immediately, and you will also get your Police Check result after it has been processed.

    Do I pay for a Police Check ID verification?

    The online application can be completed in the following simple steps;

    Click the “Start a new Police Check” option on the online portal of the Australian National Character Check.

    • ✔ Step 2

    Fill out the Informed Consent Application Form with your accurate details. It is this data that is run on the Criminal database; be explicit with information.

    Select and fill the "Purpose" of the Police Check; Whether as a volunteer police check, employment check, and so on.

    Does the online Police Check expire?

    The Police Check certificate is a point-in-time document; it only contains the date of issuance but never a date of expiration. Generally, both parties use the Police Check certificate until it becomes obsolete for use by the requesting party.

    Most employers agree that a Police Check certificate becomes of little use after three months, however this will depend on their internal risk mitigation policies.

    Since a person's criminal history is constantly updated depending on their activity in Australian laws, candidates should get their Police Check renewed within respectable periods. Employers even request a Police Check update at least once every year from their employees.

    The Police Check is a nationally coordinated criminal history check on the applicant's criminal history. The results (physical copy or soft copy) cannot be different for the same person. Identical records are displayed on the online copy of the police check and the physical document.

    Most candidates and employers prefer the online copy because of its convenience in use, safety and storage.

    Individuals

    If you are an individual, you can obtain a national criminal record check certificate online via Australian National Character Check’s police check application and informed consent form. The results are dispatched via email.

    Business and Enterprise Customers

    Business and Enterprise customers are able to sign up to ANCC’s business portal where they can order, manage, track and view candidates’ criminal history check results on their business portal. Organisations will undergo a process for approval prior to being granted access to ANCC’s business portal.
